  9. 2-3 Green Chillies slit

  11. 1 tsp Turmeric powder
  12. 1/2 tsp Garam Masala
  13. Whole Garam Masala or Spices-
  14. 1 tsp Caraway Seeds or Shahjeera
  15. 2-3 Green Cardamoms
  16. 1 " Cinnamon stick
  17. 8-10 Black Peppercorns

  1. First of all, soak Rice and the Lentils after washing thoroughly for at least 20 minutes. Now in a non-stick pot, heat Ghee or Oil or a combination of both, and add the Ginger garlic paste, Bay Leaf and the sliced Onion to it along with some chopped Tomatoes.
  2. Add the whole Garam Masalas one by one. Also, add the Garam masala and the Turmeric powders along with Green Chillies and Coriander Leaves. After about 5 to 8 minutes of sauteeing, add the soaked Rice and the Lentils.
  3. Saute for a minute and then add water as required accordingly along with the salt. For the first 10 minutes, let it cook on a high flame stirring in between to mix everything well. After 10 minutes, lower the flame and cover. In between just keep mixing it gently. That's it. It gets done pretty quickly. Yum!
